Blues Études
Three short blues pieces that put the whole part to work.
3 lessons
This chapter puts the whole blues part to work in three short, original pieces. Each étude is a complete tune with an intro, a verse, a solo and an outro, so you practice not just licks and shapes but how they fit together into music.
Lantern Street Shuffle is a 14-bar shuffle in A built from open-string boogie shapes, box 1 licks and a single bend: your first complete blues guitar song. Ironwood Strut moves to E, with a low riff answered by double-stops, a solo up at the 12th fret that targets the chord tones of A7 and E, and a turnaround over a ringing open string. Ember Hour is a slow blues in G in 12/8, mixing G7 and C9 comping with fills, high bends, a fast run, a pinch harmonic and a half-step slide ending.
