Notes on the Neck
Find any note, anywhere, without counting frets.
4 lessons
Most guitarists learn shapes long before note names, then freeze when someone says "play it in C". This chapter teaches the notes on the guitar neck the practical way: one note at a time, everywhere it lives, until finding it is a reflex instead of fret counting.
You start by finding every A on the fretboard, from the open string up to the 17th fret. Then you learn the natural notes on the low E and A strings, where the roots of almost every power chord and barre chord sit, and the two half steps (B to C, E to F) that catch everyone out. Octave shapes carry those notes up to the D, G, B and high e strings, and the last lesson uses both tools to find every C and every G.
Each tab exercise plays in the browser with a click, so you can say the note names out loud in time. A checkpoint at the end of each lesson tells you when the map is really in your hands.
