Play like Slash

Bluesy minor licks, wide vibrato and a dark harmonic-minor twist.

4 lessons

Slash's solos with Guns N' Roses, from "Sweet Child o' Mine" to "November Rain", mix blues grit with real melody. His lines start in the minor pentatonic, borrow notes from other scales and end on a wide, slow vibrato you can spot in a second. This chapter teaches the Slash style in four lessons, in E minor and A.

You start with pentatonic plus natural minor, adding F# and C to the E minor pentatonic box at the 12th fret for more melodic runs. The wide vibrato lesson shows how to pivot from the wrist for a slow, aggressive vibrato, on plain notes and on bends. Harmonic-minor flavour brings in the D# leading tone and a hidden diminished arpeggio for a dark, almost classical move from B7 to E minor. Finally, mixing major and minor pentatonic teaches the C to C# hinge that lets a phrase lean on tension, then resolve sweetly.

Every exercise is a tab that plays in your browser with a click and a tempo ladder, and each lesson ends with a checkpoint. Tone tips cover a Slash-style setup: humbucker, a hot crunchy amp and a little delay.
