Slides

Glide between notes and positions with clean, in-time slides.

4 lessons

Slides give your lead playing a vocal, connected sound and free you from staying stuck in one box. This chapter teaches you how to slide on guitar cleanly and in time, and how to use slides to move around the neck in A minor pentatonic.

You start with shift slides, which carry your whole hand from box 1 to box 2 of the pentatonic scale and back, landing exactly on the target fret instead of overshooting. Then you use slides inside short blues and rock licks, sliding into notes from below and back down into box 1. Next you learn to slide into bends, chaining both moves into one rising swoop that still ends in tune. The last lesson gathers slide licks that connect positions and add quick up-and-back slides to your phrasing.

Every exercise plays in your browser with a click, so you can hear the slide arrive on the beat and climb the tempo ladder without dragging the groove. The checkpoint at the end of each lesson tells you when to move on. By the end you'll link pentatonic boxes smoothly and make your licks sound sung, not just played.
